A note about the exclusive podcast content, we filmed it but unfortunately there was a major audio issue so we couldn’t upload it. I’ve been away for 3 weeks (bet you didn’t notice) so it wasn’t feasible to re-record it.

Spotify is a massive titan in the music industry, but how did they get so large and how did the company start?

Subscription based music services are terrible. More of the ‘you’ll own nothing and be happy’ mentality

Spotify, from failure to spying and stealing all your private information and selling it to whoever buys it. Buying Vinyl’s, CD’s and cassettes and band shirts are the true way to support artists. Bandcamp is better than Spotify if you have to get it digital. Spotify isn’t better than piracy. Having a company steal all your data and stream 256MP3’s on Spotify or download 320MP3’s or flac quality songs and have no one spying on you.

Lol not true. Cold fusion as I just checked keeps a few thousand few per video. So 8 is couple orders of magnitude lower than that. Like I said I was earlier the views already tripled since then. Two orders of magnitude and then some is a MASSIVE gap.

I don’t use spotify. So the 380M users is not so shocking, but doesn’t make me interested. I’m not a music addcit so I don’t need music so much I’d listen to ads for it. (youtube has adblock) and as for paying definitely not enough to pay. I have plenty of music. And can get more if I want. Music is wonderful and I have no interest in spotify I listen to albums in order. Or any order I made the playlist manually in. But mostly in order.

But yeah Odysee gets 25 million month visits(stats from similarweb) which puts in that 2,170th global rank out of every website. That’s called massive success. Its just being compared to youtube which is the number2 site with 33 billion monthly hits. So yeah massive success is nothing when you compare it to the number one video platfrom. Like odysee is much successful than most other sites than host videos. But yeah its not as big as rumble or youtube so I guess you think its not unwanted. what about unknown. Billions of people don’t even know it exists. So they can’t choose it yet.

Eh, the fact that this video and others from larger Youtube creators are here on Odysee already makes it a lot more successful than other alternatives. It proves that these creators are at least willing to invest in this platform, at least in a small way through syncing their channels.

Also the artist against spotify is pretty interesting. I like bandcamp. I like how its simple no ads just music. So at least from my own view bandcamp is nice. But yeah if you can make the money without these companies than why bother with them. Its up to the artist and if they wanna do their way cool! Anyone and promote their music on youtube(or odysee) and sells their albums however they like without middlemen.

@zlopez

Bandcamp isn’t really an alternative, I couldn’t find most of the things I want to listen to. But I agree that the best way to support band is to go to their concerts and buy their things and I also agree the privacy isn’t really great in case of Spotify.

@zlopez

I agree, but there isn’t any legal alternative. I would like to see something like this, you will have option to buy the album + download it to your local machine in open format, but still be able to use just the streaming option, which is convenient and enough for most users.

If you guys aren’t aware LBRY has a similar site to Spotify that uses songs from the LBRY protocol - it’s called HoundFM (https://hound.fm/). Check it out. They also have a channel on Odysee if you want to talk to them.

I haven’t used it a lot but to my knowledge Amazon offers both options to stream using a subscription service and buying the album to be able to download the tracks to your device as mp3

It would be great if there were an open-source frontend for streaming audio. The backends can all be separate corporations all competing with each other, charging accordingly for access to their content. I don’t want Spotify to be the only one, it’s almost a monopoly.

To me, I prefer Youtube for listening to music because not only could I use some premium features from Spotify for free, such as unlimited skipping and choosing individual songs, but also I have the guarantee that anyone I want to listen to will be there. It’s also reeeaaally easy to make it easier to listen to music without paying for the retard tax YT Premium, such as turning on background playback on phones, downloading Adblock, or using third party clients like Invidious or Newpipe. The only thing holding back listening to music this way is that the way playlists work is AWFUL. It will save duplicate links of music if you forgot that it saved before, which you will always do, and that’s basic stuff (Odysee literally solved this!). P.S.: Do you know about any good artists on Odysee? I find Odysee to be better in theory due to its playlists actually working and being able to download videos for free, but I haven’t found much good music yet.

I agree as I don’t use Bandcamp but I have a friend who uses it. Spotify is always missing tons of music, and both Spotify and Bandcamp will delete artists if they deem them offensive.

I’d really hope that as LBRY/Odysee mature, they can start to include obvious offshoots that work well with their technology… which would be things to help cannibalize TikTok, Instagram and yes, Spotify.
